Prevalence of Anti-HCV among pregnant women

Background : Hepatitis C virus is one of the important agents of Non -A , Non-B viruses. Hepatitis C virus is a causative agent for chronic and acute hepatitis. Objective : To evalute the presence of Anti-HCV among pregnant women. Methods : The sera of 80 pregnant women who referred to Amirkabir and Razi hospitals of Ahwaz were collected. All the sera were tested for Anti-HCV by Elisa test. The immunoblot (Liatek) test was used for confirmation. Findings : Out of 80 samples , 5 (6.25%) sera showed positive Anti HCV by Elisa , but these positive samples were negative by immunoblot test. Conclusion : The results of this study indicated that no Anti-HCV dection was observed among the pregnant women. However , more investigations are recommended.
