Ancient Iraniansʹ View on Determinism and Free-will

The article aims to study fatalism/determinism and free-will from the view point of ancient Iranians. First, the concepts of fatalism/determinism and free-will are explained. Since no separate study has been made of these concepts in ancient Iranian texts, the discussion starts with the ideas of Islamic thinkers. Then, the ancient Iraniansʹ views on fatalism/determinism and free-will are studied based on ancient texts and the opinions of Iranologists. The paper first discusses fatalism/determinism and then free-will in a separate manner. Finally, this question is propounded that how Mazdeans accorded these two apparently opposed principals.
