Classic Tendencies in Contemporary Persian Prose-Fiction

This article is a qualitative and quantitative study of the impact of some Persian classical texts on contemporary Iranian writers of prose-fiction. To do so, the prose-works of eight contemporary short-story writers Jamalzadeh, Bozorg-e-Alavi, Chooback, Daneshvar, AI-e-Ahmad, Golestan Golshiri, and Doulatabadi --have been studied. The result reveals that these authors are influenced by classical examples in two respects: a.) thematic issues which will sound familiar to any serious reader of Persian classical literature, b.) stylistic features such as, among others, lexical patterns, wording , figures of speech.
