Mystery in Mowlavi Mathnavi

ʹMysteryʹ is an expression in Persian mysticism which appears in most works by mystics as ʹsirr; that is, the inexpressible. Mowlavi has appropriated this expression in Mathnavi in diverse contexts to suit his purposes. In some cases, the term has been used in its literal sense but while expressing very delicate mystical concepts he, sometimes, talks of riddles` and mysteries which may not be understood if the ordinary sense of the word is considered. This article first discusses some functions of this term in its literal sense and then exposes some delicate; mystical denotations of it to the reader.
