Today, Structured Documents such as documents in XML and SGML are coming more on the World Wide Web. These structured documents also save the semantic structure as well as the text, so structured documents are saved as a tree. In other words, because of the increasing volume of data on the web, the number of queries and the extent of complexity of queries are increasing. Now, the structure of usersʹ request is also tree-based. To retrieve relevant information, classic search engines make use of Boolean operators to join keywords and match queries with documents. So, classic search engines are not capable of retrieving documents with high precision. In this paper, the hierarchical indexing and document matching are reviewed.
