An Investigation on the Causes of Inflationary Stagnation in Iran

lnflationary stagnation_which was pointed out serious in economic literature following the oil shocks in 1970s _ is among new economic phenomena which stems from various factors. This article identifies its reasons and results in Iranian economy. In this way, some tests were conducted using econometric methods and synchronic equations as well as the annual data of 1968-2000. The results show that oil income is the most important source of inflationary stagnation in Iranian economy. Production negative shock, expansionary monetary policies and inflation positive shock are the next reasons in this row which result somehow from indirect effects of oil sector on Iranian economy. To counter this problem, purpose of lowing the negative effects of foreign shocks on Iranian economy would be the most important task.
