Evaluation of E-Government Efforts in Iran

Nowadays, increasing development in information and communication technologies (ICT) created a historic opportunities for governments to deliver better services to the people. Hence, development of e-government projects in different countries has started for more than one decade. Noting the importance of the ICT, the Iranian government in 2002 set up a special plan, called TAKFA. This research addresses degree of e-government progress in Iran by considering characteristics of websites of public agencies. The UN five-stage model was adopted to evaluate e-government readiness based on website assessment. Findings of this research indicate that, in general, public sector agencies are in first stages of e-government, but progression does not resemble a linear pattern.
