Oil and Regional Security: The Middle East Regionalism and Oil

The concept of self-sufficiency in maintaining national security has been redefined- through the complicated process of theorizing the phenomenon of security- as the interdependence between the global security and the security maintained by the societies-at its lowest level. Theorists, using appropriate schools of thought most of which underwent transmutation after the cold war, have attempted to analyze the developments of securities leading to the relationship between the two beneficiary parties in the security off trade from different points of view. As a result, formation of regional systems and their role in providing security for the countries have emerged as new phenomena in recent decades. The present paper tries to analyze the concept of security and pertinent theoretical approaches. The paper, then, considers regional security (based on oil and gas reserves) as a realistic prerequisite for the national security of the Muslim countries in the region.
