A Survey of Factors Affecting Reading and the Relationship Between Maslowʹs Hierarchy of Needs and Reading attitude

The present research paper, which is an applied study survey method, focuses on the subjectsʹ attitude towards reading and its relationship with Maslowʹs hierarchy of needs. A sample of 1535 subjects, between age range of 12-60 from four cities in Khorasan Razavi province, were asked to fill out a questionnaire. The results showed that the studied population have positive attitude towards reading and esteem needs are at the high level among them. Correlation coefficient test showed a significant correlation between Maslowʹs hierarchy of needs and reading attitudes of the subjects. F tests showed a meaningful differences among the subjects attitude relating to their age, academic degree and job categories. Also, t test indicated a significant difference between the male and female attitudes towards reading.
