    Introdu ction : Breast cancer is one of the most common known cance rs amo ng women of all the racial groups . Thus. a study on both the ge neric and environmental factors pro vides a new cha nce for us to comprehend the ri..,b of breas t cancer. Molec ular studies were performed in order to elucidate the rela tionship betw een thre e polymorphi c meta bolic enzy mes with breas t cancer. Materials & Meth ods: In this case-co ntrol study. the polymorphisms of glutathione ~ transfer ase (GST) M1, T l und P I were analyzed by PCR in genomic DNA from blood sam ples of 3 I female breast ca nce r pa tients against 46 women as the control gro up. To investigate any possibl e rela tionships betwee n genotype in GSTT I and GSTM 1 a Mull. PCR meth od was used, whil e for geno type in GST P I a PCRRFLP method was designed and followed. To determine the rel ationship between geno types of GSTT I, GSTM I, and GSTP I Accep ted : 14 Apr, 2009) with breast-causer risks, the OR (odd ra tio) was calculated with a 95 certainty di stance. Findings: GSTT 1 null genotype was a ri sk fac tor (odd ratio (OR), 4.75 , 95% co nfide nce interval (C I), 1.66-1 3.51), Hetrozygout e polymor phism of GST P I at nucleot ide 3 13 was associated (OR, 3.85; 95% CI, l .39- 10.61). GSTMI null genotype was not associated with the breast ca ncer risk. Discu ssion & Conclusio n: Acc ording to the ac hieveme nts o f the s tudy, we co nclude that GSTP1 and GSTT 1 ge nes co uld play a role in ca rcinogenes is in the breas t cancer.
