Study and determination of relation between morphophysiological traits and grain yield in rapeseed (Brassica napus L.)

To determine the relationship of morphophysiological characters to grain yield in 16 rapeseed (.Brassica napus L.) cultivars a field experiment was conducted in northeast Fars province in 2004-5. Grain yield, yield components (pod number, number of grain per pod and 1000 seeds weight), number of pod bearing branches, biological yield (BY), harvest index (HI), as well as, specific leaf weight (SLW) at two vegetative and reproductive stages were determinded. The results showed that number of pods per plant, number of seed bearindg branches, BY and HI were significantly correlated with grain yield, as high yielding cultivars produced more pods and branches and had greater dry matter and HI than low yielding cultivars. There was no significant correlatio between SLW, seed per pod and seed weight with grain yield. Yield component such as number of pod per plant, BY and HI can use as alternative criteria of selection for higher yield as they are easy to measure and usualy more heritable than grain yield itself
