The Rights of Minorities in the View of the Prophet of Islam and Iranian Law

The observance of the minoritiesʹ rights is one of the concerns of human societies at the present time and is emphasized by different international conventions. Islam pays attention to the minoritiesʹ rights, too. The messenger of Islam, has not only disapproved of the racial discrimination, but expressed the equality of the races. After the conquest of Mecca, he said: "Since the era of Adem till now, people have been equal like the teeth of a comb. There is no priority for the Arabs over the non- Arabs, nor for the reds against the blacks but for virtues". He practiced what he preached. For example, Belal was designated as the first caller for prayer (Moazzen). He did also the financial affairs of the holy prophet. The religious minorities were free in performing their worships and keeping their religion. The holy prophet said: "Anybody who oppresses the people in the refuge of Islam, I will be against them on the resurrection day and, I will talk against them". The Iranian constitutional law, by following the Islamic teachings, stresses the racial equality and the freedom of religious minorities in performing their religious ceremonies.
