Correlation between Irrational Beliefs with Life Cycles in Divorce Seeking Couples

The prese nt research was conducted to evaluate the corre lation between irrational beliefs with life cycles of couples filing for divorce. For this purpose, 178 subjects requesting divorce ( 120 females and 58 males) at the 23rd COlUt district, city of rasht participated in the study. The data gathering instruments included two questionnaires: a researcher constructed demographical questionnaire and Irrational Beliefs Inventory (lBI). The results showed a significant correlation between irrational beliefs with life cycles. Most divorce-seeking subjects were in their third life cycle (raising children). The highest mean scores of irrational beliefs were found in the fifth lite cycle (retirement and death). The highest mean scores of irrational beliefs were in the f fth lite cycle and the lowest were in the third life cycle. The highest mean scores of specific irrational beliefs belonged to Anxious Over concern (AO), Frustration Reactive (FR), and Helplessness for Change (HC); the lowest mean scores belonged to Problem Avoiding (PA), Emotional Irresponsibility (EI), and High Self Expectation (HSE). Furthermore, the most variety of irrational beliefs were respectively in the fifth, first, and second life cycles. There was not a significant difference between the two genders on the irrational beliefs except on Anxious Over concern; women scored higher than men on this belief.
