Normalization of the Family Environment Sc ale on Iranian Families

The aim of the present study was to normalize the real form of the Family Environment Scale on Iranian families on basis of the classic theory. The statistical sample was composed of 510 subjects from normal families selected randomly and through random multi-stage sampling; 36 subjects were from problem fami lies; all were residents of Tehran. The research instruments included the Family Environment Scale (R Form). The scaleʹ s reliability was assessed by Coronbach Alpha method for all 10 subscales; test-retest was performed within 1.5 months and Pearson coefficient correlation was obtained on each subscale. The alpha ranged between 0.56 and 0.79 and coefficient correlation was between 0.63 and 0.83. For the attainment of differential validity, independent t-test compared the mean differences between the groups of normal and problem families; the results of which were significant in all subscales except "Achievement Oriented" and "Organiza tion" .
