Conceptual Impasses in Revising French Arab Diplomacy

For four decades the French Arab diplomacy based on Gaulist principles made this country as an honest friend of Arab world on Middle Eastern issues. Regardless of independent positions, the success of this diplomacy was due to the situation of international system. The September 11 attacks and unilateral policies of the United States in the Middle East challenged the French model of diplomacy towards the Arab world characterized by "management and tolerance". The aim of this article is to exrnine the reasons behind the revision of Gaulisi policies and several aspects of two different French foreign policies in the Arab Middle East.
