Application ofEcologicalApproachfor Counselin with Working Women in Dual Career Families

The presence of working woman in the labor market and in universities has provided them with opportunities as well as challenges. The current study is the examinat io n of the analysis carried out based on the qualitative interviews made with twenty married women in the dual-career families in the fall of 2008 in Tehran. Based on the findings of this research, the author proposes and recommends to the counselors and psychotherapists, especially occupational counselors, when conducting counseling with working women and dual-career couples to employ an ecological approach in its broader definition and to go beyond the individual, her family and the systems surrounding her. This comprehensive and holistic approach considers and examines the effect of the natural, human and social environment and the cultural setting of the working women along with their interaction with their environment. In this approach elements such as life style in a mega city like Tehran and its related difficulties such as pollutio n and traffic as well as the ethnic identity, multiculturalism and the \surroundiig ecosystem are takeenn Ij nto consiideerraattiion.Rico gnition of the issue will aid specialists to conduct their counseling with women and dual career coulpes in a more effective and competent manner. This will raise the awareness of policy makers and the management of en terprises to this effect so that they would take these considerations in to account for the adoption of laws, and bylaws and would encourage them to provide more facilities to the working women with a view to improve their working condition that will eventually lead to the more active and efficien t presence of women in the society.
