A Treatise on Shalbafi (Knitting Shawls)

Shalbaft (knitting shawls) transferred from Iran to India, became more popular in kashmir than any other parts of India, which is considered by the world as Kishmtri shawl. The process of the changes in knitting industry can be followed by a treatise written by Haji Mukhtar Shah whose ancestors were famous Iranian knitters who immigrated to Kishmir in the 8th century. The author gives a short account of Haj! Mukhtar Shahʹs treatise, giving reasons for his immigration, the purpose of this professionʹs progress and its changes while at the end he represents the whole treatise.
