Horse in the Iranian Ancient Art

Asb (Horse) had a significant status in ancient Iran among animals. Asb has been with the Iranians since long. In fact, Iran has had a very long experience in horse training and riding. It was the people of this land who could tame and saddle up horses for the first time. The historical evidence including embossed pictures on rocks, seals, frameworks and textiles are all full of horse images, showing the usage of this animal in the Iranian daily life. These pictures show that the image of Asb in pre-Achaemenian era was very abstract and drawn in simple lines. The Parthian was so proud of their horses7 beauties. Despite the presence of few art works remained from this period, there has been an increased attention toward designing and drawing pictures of horses in detail. In Sasani period, there was proportionate consideration in drawing horses and various images of horses are observed on the rocks, pots and statues of this era.
