Feasible Studies and Performance of Membrane Technology in Natural Gas Sweetening

Due to advantages of novel membrane processes related to the conventional absorption processes, synthesis and performance evaluation of membranes in natural gas sweetening processes are necessary. In this work, removal of acid gases from natural gas by membranes was investigated. Permeabilities and selectivities of the investigated membranes in natural gas sweetening were reported. It is found that three types of membranes; polyphosphazene, poly_,ether^urethane_,urea and polyether block amide copolymer membranes demonstrate high performance in the removal of acid gases from natural gas. Also, the feasiblity study on various sweetenting methods was carried out and it is found that the cost of separation processes can be reduced significantly by using membrane processes in comparison with the conventional sweetening method (gas absorption).
