Effect of current density and concentration of Co2+ in electrolyte on morphology and composition of Zn-Co alloy coatings

Zn-Co alloy electrodeposits are the most promising coatings for the substitution of zinc coating in the automobile industry, because with a small cobalt addition (less than l%wt) it is possible to obtain better corrosion resistant coatings. In this research influence of current density and electrolyteʹs Co2+ concentration on the morphology and composition of the Zn-Co coatings in weakly alkaline glycine solutions has been studied. The Zn-Co coatings were electrodeposited on the A1S1 1018 steel substrate. SEM and EDS were used to analysis of surface morphology and composition of Zn-Co alloy coatings. Due to obtained data, Increasing of applied current density and Co2ʹconcentration in electrolyte, result in increasing of coatingʹs cobalt concentratin.
