Effect of cold rolling parameters on surface quality, microstructure and hardness of Nig AZ61 alloy sheets

The effects of rolling temperature, strain rate and type of lubricant on properties of Mg AZ61 alloy sheets were investigated. Rolling was conducted at three temperatures of ambient, 100 and 160 °C. The strain rates of 9 and 13 s1 were performed and two conditions of oil base and soap water lubrication were applied. The microstructure and vickers hardness of all samples after annealing were compared. The results indicate that at higher rolling temperature and lower strain rate, less rolling defects and better surface quality is obtained.
