Relationship between transformational and transactional leadership styles of coaches with motive to achieve success of basketball pro- league players in Iran

The purpose of this study was to investigate relationship between transformational and transactional leadership styles and motive to achieve success of athletes in Iranian super basketball league. The sample of this study contained 14 team and 170 athletes. Leadership styles measured by TLP ^Sashkin, 1998) and motive to achieve success measured with SAI 2(Willis, 1989). The statistical procedure also was based on descriptive and inferential basis and included multivariable regression and for developed and tested a model using Structural Equation Models (SEM) with lisrel 9/2. The results indicated there was a positive and significant correlation between transformational leadership of coaches (that contain tow dimensions transformational leadership behavioral and transformational leadership characteristics) and motive to achieve success of athletes. Transformational leadership characteristics and transformational leadership behavioral had equal effect on motive to achieve success. Transactional leadership styles didnʹt have significant correlation with motive to achieve success of athletes.
