Authority of Apparent Meanings of the Qurʹan from the Viewpoint of Mirza Mahdi Isfahani

One of the most important issues concerning the Qurʹan is the possibility and the way of understanding the Qurʹan, which is dealt with in principles of jurisprudence as the "authority of apparent meanings". This topic includes opinions ranging from self-sufficiency of the Qurʹan for its understanding to the impossibility of its understanding. The writer believes that Mirza Mahdi Isfahani is among the contemporary jurisprudents who has presented a new exposition of the famous Imam! juristsʹ view, according to which the authority of apparent meanings can be proved, retaining the independence of the Qurʹan and the ʹitrat (progeny of the Prophet — S.A.W.) in their authority.
