An Investigation of the Place of "Tolerance" in Religious Education

Religious precepts are deeply ingrained in manʹs nature. Over ages, loyalty to religious beliefs has been counted as an index of manʹs behavior. The passage of time has had impact on religious precepts and relations, on the other hand , the emergence of the new technology such as IT, ICT as well as the current approach of Globalization portend a new world in front of the faithfulness. Naturally enough, religious upbringing process plays the most important role in this regard. Thus, the revision of religious education methods to recreate values is necessary. After recognizing the significance of this matter in the contemporary community and presenting a set of definitions of religious upbringing, the author explains that faith lies in manʹs heart which is impervious to any imposition, for heartʹs stuff is one of love- making. Consequendy, the author counts tolerance in religious upbringing as a way of conscious, free fixation and enhancement of religious beliefs as die best religious teaching method. Then he catalogs places wherein tolerance could be exerted, including domains of belief, faith, ethical behaviors, culture, and society in die Koranic Verses and the speeches and acts of the Imams (peace is upon them). At the end, the norms and necessary principles to be observed in religious upbringing tolerance process are delineated.
