With the establishment of the Achaemenid Empire, the Iranian borders in the south, the southeast, and along the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman were securely instituted. The strategic importance of this maritime zone, which had become obvious centuries before Christ, prompted the Iran rulers to exert sovereignty, militarily and economically, over the northern and the southern halves of the Persian Gulf. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the role of this strategic maritime region in the short and long-time economic and military policies of the Achaemenid government. The creation of a convergence and collective security without the imposition of cultural or economic models, the strengthening of the military, and the flourishing of sea-trade are among the results of the policies adopted by the Achaemenid rulers.
