Globalization in the Gaze of Neo-Gramscian Theory of International Political Economy

One of the key questions in explanation and comprehension of globalization would be; is globalization an inevitable, non-returnable process with no subject which occurs continuously, or is it a project in which human subject and agency plays a fundamental role? Studying world literature on this subject makes it clear that those going along with globalization have accepted this theory while skeptics do not believe in non returnability of such process and talk of alternatives to globalization. One of the globalization theories advocated by a group of international political science thinkers known as Neo-Gramscians states that globalization is a political project in which human agency and subject play an important role in and not just a spontaneous process. Their basic claim is that globalization (neo-liberal globalization) in fact is transnational production executed by a transnational capitalist class aiming towards a hegemonic world order. In this essay while glancing at this theory, the claim that globalization means formation of a transnational capitalist class who advances globalization, is evaluated. Our main hypothesis that globalization in its neo-liberal concept and as a project is advanced basically by United States of America and gains momentum and strength through some international organizations such as International Monetary Funds, World Bank and World Trade Organization.
