Standardizing Scientific Journals and the Criteria for Evaluation of ISI

The Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) is a publishing institute which comprehensively covers the most important and most effective research conducted throughout the world. At present this institute evaluates 8,000 international journals. Before being selected or rejected. each journal undergoes a process of accurate evaluation. Numerous factors, both qualitative and quantitative, are considered in the evaluation of journals. The basic standards for publishing a journal. the contents of its articles, the international nature of the editorial board and writers, as well as the sources relied upon are all taken into consideration. The fundamental standards of evaluation of this journal include the following: the date of publication: accord with international rules and regulations of publication; specialization and possession of titles; abstracts of articles and key words rendered in English. It is also recommended that sources relied upon be in the English language. In order for a journal to be evaluated by the ISI, the latest published issue along with a letter of request must be sent to the above institute, followed by two or three subsequent issues of the journal immediately upon publication. In the letter of request, there should he a brief explanation of the exclusive nature of the journal in question. how it may differ from other journals in its field, as well as the full title of the journal, its ISSN, the name and address of its editor-in-chief and publisher.
