Challenges facing NATO in establishing security in Afghanistan

During three past decades of instability in Afghanistan, we have been witnessing invasion and military presence of Eastern and Western forces, and at the same time in domestic sphere, different kinds of leadership have come to power. Similarity in incompetence of domestic and foreign forces indicates the fact that sustainable development has not yet been formed. During the last decade, Al-Qaeda and Taliban and the need to control them, made the field ready for presence of NATO and allied forces in Afghanistan. This thesis studies challenges facing NATO in establishing security in Afghanistan. Important point is that NATO acts as a new player in establishment of security in Afghanistan, on the one hand, leads military alliance in Afghanistan and on the other hand, tries to stabilize political condition in Afghanistan. What the thesis tries to tell us is that until the major problems arising from ignorance of truths such as new players, wrong ethnical and tribal leadership or neighborhood considerations exist, NATO and international societiesʹ efforts to establish peace and security in Afghanistan will not succeed simply through political agreements. Under these circumstances, Afghanistanʹs leadership has to enhance domestic and national capabilities, and to be in state to establish security in order to reduce presence of foreign military forces and at the same time at regional level, to make efforts to maintain impartiality of their representatives.
