Evolution trend of engineering education in the world and in Iran

تاريخ آموزش مهندسي شاهد پيشرفتهاي باشكوهي بوده است و بر تكامل آموزش مهندسي دلالت دارد. آگاهي از تكامل تاريخي آموزش مهندسي به درك وضعيت موجود آن و همچنين، بهبود و اصلاح آموزش مهندسي متناسب با شرايط جديد كمك مي‌كند. در اين مقاله ابتدا روندهاي اصلي آموزش مهندسي در قالب سه رويكرد شامل رويكرد مبتني بر عمل مهندسي، رويكرد مبتني بر علم مهندسي و رويكرد مبتني بر تلفيق علم و عمل مهندسي مطرح شده‌اند؛ تاريخ آموزش مهندسي در كشور ايران نشان مي‌دهد كه برنامه‌هاي آموزش مهندسي از دو مرحله اول تكامل آموزش مهندسي در سطح جهاني تبعيت كردهاند، اما تغيير و گرايش اساسي به سمت رويكرد مبتني بر تلفيق علم و عمل مهندسي مشاهده نمي‌شود. سپس، بر اساس چالشهاي قرن بيست و يكم دورنمايي از آينده آموزش مهندسي ترسيم شده است. در پايان، نتيجه ‌گرفته شد براي اينكه آموزش مهندسي به تربيت مهندساني منجر شود كه بتوانند مسايل را تشخيص دهند و راه حلهاي موثري براي برآوردن نياز جامعه طرح كنند، بايد در برنامه‌هاي آموزش مهندسي به سه موضوع عمده و تلفيق آنها با يكديگر توجه شود كه عبارت اند از: علم (چه چيز)، مباحث اجتماعي و انساني (چرا) و مهندسي (چگونه).

The history of engineering education has seen spectacular achievements which indicate evolution of engineering education. Awareness of the historical evolution of engineering education helps to understand its present situation as well as to improve and change engineering education in relevance to new conditions. In this article, major trends in engineering education have been summarized in three approaches. The approach based on engineering practice, the approach based on engineering science, and the approach based on integration of engineering science and practice. History of engineering education in Iran indicates that the first two approaches of engineering education have been regarded in programs of Iranian engineering education, respectively, but a major change is not seen toward approach based on integration of education science and practice. In this article an outlook to the future of engineering education is traced with regard to challenges of the 21st century. Finally, it was concluded that three subject including science (what), societal and human issues (why), and engineering (who) should be taken into consideration and they should be integrated in programs of engineering education so that engineering graduates can identify problems and design effective solutions for meeting society needs.
