Abstract :
Mussel adhesive proteins are a new class of biologically-derived materials that possess unique biocompatibility, bioactivity,
and adhesion properties. We have demonstrated successful thin film growth of 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-L-alanine modified
poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (DOPA modified- PEO-PPO-PEO) block copolymer, a
mussel adhesive protein analog, using matrix assisted pulsed laser evaporation. We have demonstrated that the main functional
groups of the mussel adhesive protein analog are present in the transferred film. The effect of increasing of chain length of the
mussel adhesive protein analog on film structure was also examined. These novel polymer thin films could have numerous
medical and technological applications if their thin film properties are similar to what is found in bulk. This is the first report of
successful MAPLE deposition of this material as thin films
