Abstract :
To evaluate the effect of levamisol as immunostimulant on the immune response of sheep vaccinated with FMD bivalent oil vaccine. Twenty sheep local breed of 3-4 month were used. The sheep were clinically healthy and free from antibodies against foot and mouth disease virus. Blood samples were collected for evaluation of cell mediated immunity, from the 3rd day post vaccination, then every week until declined. Serum samples were collected every two weeks till the protective antibody level declined. The sera were used in the serological tests (SNT and ELISA). Both of the immune parameters were generally increased gradually to reach the highest value of cellular immunity by the 21 th day post vaccination while that of neutralizing antibodies titre and ELISA titre was reached by the 8th week to14th week post vaccination.Compared with non-levamisole injected rams, the levamisole injected rams induced a significantly higher cellular and humeral immune response and long lasting duration of immune responsewhich were proved by statistical data. Levamisole could be used to improve both humeral and cell-mediated responses for bivalent oil adjuvanated foot and mouth disease vaccine.
