Abstract :
The DNA helicase RecBCD pauses when it reaches recombination hotspots known as Chi sites and then proceeds at a slower speed of translocation than before Chi recognition. Reporting in this issue, now show that this reduction in translocation velocity occurs when RecBCD changes which of its two motor subunits is in the lead.
