Development of an improved on-line chromatographic monitor with new methods for environmental and process control

The development of an improved, on-line, monitoring system using high performance liquid chromatography is described. The monitor is a self-contained unit capable of continuous, in situ, unattended operation for periods of at least a week. All analytical steps including sample collection, pretreatment, derivatisation, injection, detection and data processing are programmable and fully automated. The utility of the system is demonstrated with the development of applications of environmental and industrial significance such as the analysis of cyanides, chloramines, chromium, copper, lead and aluminium.
