Spectrophotometric determination of chromium(VI) by extraction of the dichromate anion into propylene carbonate

Chromium(VI) (0–120 μg) can be determined spectrophotometrically at 362 nm after its extraction as dihydrogen dichromate into propylene carbonate. The effects of acidity and diverse ions are reported. The relative standard deviation for the determination of 60 μg Cr(VI) was 0.81% (n = 9). The system has been applied to the determination of chromium in steel (0.2–4% w/w Cr).
