Polarographic determination of yttrium based on reduction of its solochrome violet RS complexApplication to the analysis of the superconductor YBa2Cu3Oy

A practical method for the polarographic determination of yttrium is described. The procedure is based on the reduction of the yttrium-solochrome violet RS (SVRS) complex. Experimental conditions include the use of Triton X-100 in order to achieve good separation of the Y-SVRS and SVRS peaks. Application of the procedure to the determination of yttrium as a major component in the superconductor YBa2Cu3Oy gave good results.
