Abstract :
A sensitive reduction peak of mazindol is obtained by adsorptive stripping voltammetry in 0.1 M H2SO4 at an accumulation time of 180 s. The peak potential is −0.72 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). The peak current is directly proportional to the concentration of mazindol (1×10−8–8×10−7 M), with a 3σ detection limit of 4.0×10−9 M. The behaviour of the reduction wave has been studied and applied to the determination of mazindol in tablets. The reduction process is irreversible with adsorptive characteristics. Its behaviour obeys a Frumkin adsorption isotherm. The adsorption coefficient β is 8.91×105 l mol−1 and the interaction factor α is 0.22. The mechanism of the electrode reduction is discussed.
