Abstract :
A new type of liquid-core optical fiber (LCOF) as an absorption cuvette for spectrophotomic determination, which had high light transmission in aqueous solutions in the ultraviolet region (minimum wavelength 230 nm) was achieved. The preparation of an aqueous solution for LCOF was given and the source light introduction into the LCOF was described. The loss spectra of a LCOF filled with aqueous ethanol solutions were measured and the empirical formulas obtained for the nth harmonic absorption peaks of O–H and C–H stretch vibrations in ethanol were νn=n(2979–57n) cm−1 and νn = (2922–63n) cm−1, respectively. Carbamazipine and Vitamin C were detected with a 100 cm long LCOF in the ultraviolet region. The sensitivity was increased over 100 times compared to a 1 cm cell.
