Abstract :
A simple, rapid, specific and sensitive analytical method for the determination of chlorpheniramine (CPM) by using an ion-selective piezoelectric (ISP) sensor is described. The ISP sensor was fabricated by coating an active film which has selective adsorption/desorption properties for the CPM cation onto one electrode of an AT-cut piezoelectric quartz crystal which is known for its sensitive mass response. Neither sample pretreatment nor separation was required. It exhibited a linear relationship between the logarithm of the frequency shift and the logarithm of the concentration of CPM from 1×10−8 to 1×10−3 M with a detection limit of 6×10−9 M. In this work, three kind of activants, namely, CPM–dipicrylaminate (CPM–DPA), CPM–BiI−4 and CPM–tetraphenylborate (CPM–TPB), were synthesized and investigated. The method has been successfully employed for the direct determination of CPM in serum and urine solution. There was little interference from most of the drug cations and results were in agreement with those obtained by other methods.
