Abstract :
A ring-electrode piezoelectric sensor (REPS) has been designed and used for investigating in situ the adsorption of bovine serum albumin (BSA) from hydrochloric acid solution (pH 4.7) onto a quartz crystal interface. The influence of the solution pH on BSA adsorption was examined, suggesting that hydrogen bonding is a dominating force. The adsorption isotherm of BSA on quartz surface was also investigated, indicating that different adsorption processes occur when the BSA concentration was lower/greater than 2.5×10−3 mg/ml. In addition, the frequency shifts caused by the net change of electrolyte concentration were studied, showing that the effect brought by changing the electrolyte concentration in the test solution can be neglected when the change of electrolyte concentration was lower than 0.01 mmol/l.
