Abstract
A chemiluminescence (CL) analyzer for continuous monitoring of tropospheric ozone has been developed. The new chemiluminescence reagent film (CLRF) detector is characterized by a continuously renewing of the chemiluminescent reagent as a thin film on a smooth glass surface. Several organic compounds were tested as possible CL reagents and the azine dyes gave the highest CL signals. The CLRF detector was compared with a commercially available ultraviolet ozone analyzer during measurement of ambient and indoor air. The comparison clearly indicated that the widely used photometric ozone measurement technique shows higher responses than the chemiluminescent analyzer. This is most likely a result of the presence of aromatic pollutants and their partial elimination by the ozone scrubber used in the UV analyzer.
