Analysis of procyanidins in pine bark with reversed-phase and normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization mass spectrometry Original Research Article

Three procyanidin fractions, one with shorter oligomers, one with longer oligomers and one with polymers, were obtained from Pinus sylvestris L. bark extract. Procyanidins were analyzed using reversed-phase and normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography methods coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometric detection in the negative ion mode. On the grounds of mass spectral data, pine bark was found to contain procyanidins from monomers through decamers and higher polymers.
