Identity and Security in the Middle East

در سالهاي اخير خاورميانه شاهد تغييرات گسترده اي بوده است. با وجود اينكه بعضي كشورها تغييرات دموكراتيك را تجربه مي كنند، بعضي ديگر با مشكلات جدي روبرو هستند. بعضي از روابط نزديك و دوستانه به روابط غيردوستانه و تبادل كلمات كوبنده تبديل شده است. تعدادي از كشورها در آستانه جنگ داخلي و برخي شاهد حملات تروريستي روزانه هستند. سوال اصلي اين مقاله اين است كه چگونه تعدد هويتي به چالش امنيتي در خاورميانه تبديل شده است؟ مقاله تعدد هويتي و بسياري از چالش هاي امنيتي در منطقه را بر اساس اين تعدد بررسي مي كند. در اين رابطه اين مقاله به گوناگوني مباحثي كه تشكيل دهنده هويت هاي سياسي متفاوت در منطقه است، توجه دارد و به تاثير آنها بر امنيت داخلي و منطقه اي مي پردازد.

The Middle East has witnessed dramatic changes in the last few years. Although some countries are experiencing new democratic changes, others face serious problems. Some state formal relations have changed from close relations to some unfriendly exchange of words and severed relations. Some countries are on the verge of civil war while others witness daily acts of terror. The main question this paper addresses is how the plurality of identities has led to security challenges in the Middle East. The article argues that the plurality of identities may explain many security challenges in the region. Following a look at the variety of discourses that constitute different political identities in the region, their impact on domestic and regional security will be discussed.
