Abstract :
The tensile behaviour of tungsten filaments coated with SiC is correlated with the nature of the interfacial zone. Results show that the tensile strength decreases as the thickness of the interfacial zone increases. The loss of mechanical performance is limited by weakening of the bonding between the interfacial zone and the silicon carbide with the help of a titanium carbide interphase.
