Abstract :
The frictional properties of Zdol on a magnetic disk surface have been studied. The friction experiments indicated that the friction coefficient decreases with an increase in the thickness of the mobile and bonded lube layers. The mobile layer allows the replenishment of the lubricant molecule. On the other hand, the bonded lube layer avoids any solid-solid contact between the glass and diamond-like carbon (DLC) . For an ultrathin film as thin as a monolayer or less, the bonded ratio is very important for controlling the friction properties. There is an optimum combination of film thickness of the mobile and bonded lube layers to provide the minimum friction.
