Magnetic anisotropy of hcp Fe/sub 3/Pt-ordered alloy thin films

The hcp-ordered phase of Fe/sub 3/Pt thin films is successfully synthesized and shows a very large sixfold basal plane magnetic anisotropy of the order of 10/sup 5/ erg/cc. This in-plane magnetic anisotropy depends on the deposition temperature and its trend is similar to the change in the integrated intensity of the superlattice peak of Fe/sub 3/Pt. Therefore, there is a correlation between the ordering and the magnetic anisotropy.
