Abstract :
A special approach to fabricating Ti-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) composites consisting of a three-dimensional network Cu foam was demonstrated. The BMG composite exhibited enhanced plastic deformation and energy absorption capability as compared to the monolithic BMG counterpart. The chemistry at the Cu ligament and the amorphous matrix interfaces was examined and origins of the observed enhanced plastic deformation and energy absorption ability were also discussed.
