Abstract
Results from experiments in which single quantum dots are optically probed and coherently controlled are reviewed. Discussion of the experiments is given in the context of quantum information science and technology. In particular, we consider concepts such as decoherence, coherent control of superposition states and entangled states, and how these concepts arise in experiments involving optical control of single quantum dots.
