Abstract :
In a photonic crystal structure that includes a structural defect, an incident light localizes around the defect structure and a defect mode appears in the photonic band gap. The localized light induces an enhancement of the optical electric field inside the defect layer. Using the enhanced electric field, we tried to control the optical nonlinearity and successfully observed an ultrafast response as fast as View the MathML source with gold nanoparticles in a total-reflection-type one-dimensional photonic crystal.
