Abstract :
We demonstrate a novel wavelength converter based on the hot electron light emitting and lasing semiconductor heterojunction (HELLISH). It is nick-named Top Hat HELLISH (THH). The wavelength converter consists of electric-field-induced forward- and reverse-biased regions within the same junction plane. Therefore, the device can absorb impinging light with photon energy hν0 in the reverse-biased region and emit light from the forward-biased region at photon energy hν1
