Abstract :
Nakano et al. [K. Nakano, P.J. Boyce, J.J. Davies and D. Wolverson, J. Cryst. Growth 117 (1992) 331] have reported a reduction in site symmetry from Td to C3v, when bulk ZnSe was doped with phosphorus at low temperatures. Here phosphorus-doped ZnSe nanoparticles are synthesized by chemical route and characterized by X-ray diffraction, Ultraviolet–visible and energy dispersive analysis of X-rays to confirm their growth and the chemical composition of phosphorus in ZnSe nanoparticles. Raman spectra are recorded at 4 K, 100 K and at room temperature. Here also, a new mode 217 cm−1 observed at 4 K confirms that there is a reduction of site symmetry from Td to C3v due to Jahn–Teller distortion as in the case of bulk ZnSe:P
